Groundwater Modelling Experts

Specializing in technical aspects of groundwater modelling for effective resource management and environmental sustainability.

Expert Groundwater Modelling Solutions

We will deliver our work using the latest modelling codes available in the market, such as:

  • MODFLOW 6

  • MODFLOW USG

If your model is built in one of the older versions of MODFLOW, our experts will be able to handle it. We can use any version of MODFLOW, such as:

  • MODFLOW 2005

  • MODFLOW SURFACT

  • MODFLOW 2000

  • MODFLOW 88/96

We also utilise finite element software and codes, such as FEFLOW, to deliver pit depressurisation studies when a 2D approach is required.

Our preferred modelling approach is stochastic. This approach delivers a range of possible outcomes rather than a single number or solution. The range is always within parameters that calibrate the model. This means that our solutions are delivered using Parameter Estimation suites (PEST) such as:

  • PEST_HP (High Performance Parameter Estimation)

  • PEST-ENSI (Ensemble Space Inversion version of PEST)

  • PEST-IES (Iterative Ensemble Smoother)

  • DSI-VC (Data Space Inversion with Variable Control used for Borefield Optimisation)

  • Linear Uncertainty Analyses (used to test the sensitivity of a prediction of interest to simulated parameters)

  • DW Analyses (Data Worth Analyses that are used to guide future site investigations, providing the type and location of monitoring that need to be implemented for the project to reduce the uncertainties and risk to the project)

This approach addresses model uncertainties and project risk. The primary output of our models is probability distributions for any aspect that the model is tasked with addressing, such as predicted dewatering or water supply, predicted drawdown impact, or predicted concentration of contaminant. Predicted probabilities are translated into the risk matrix, a feature that a deterministic model cannot deliver.

Our preferred modelling interface is Python, but we also use software such as Groundwater Vistas, Visual MODFLOW, Model Muse, and others, either as model repositories or to complement the modelling study.

For our water balance assessments, we utilise the GOLDSIM platform, which can be coupled with a groundwater model and used interactively.

To prepare modelling inputs, we can use satellite data if the historical data is scarce. We can also help our clients analyse the results of the pumping tests by using AQTESOLV or MODFLOW.

We can also help our clients build geological models in LEAPFROG and review bore logs and other data, such as geophysical data and others.
